D. J. David B. Spins Comics-Tunes: A Wedding Song

I’m just giddy with excitement at the prospect of sharing this song with you, our loyal Arf readers. Someday, when you lay dying, gasping your last breath, you’ll say “It was a good life. I finally got to hear The Wedding of Mr. Universe and Fantastic Gal by The Capes & Masks.”

Not that this is a great record, mind you. It’s pretty inferior trash, truth be told. But how cool is it that somebody created a knock-off of The Wedding of Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Girl?

I must admit that The Fantastic Four Annual #3 was one of my favorite comics books at that time, featuring just about every Marvel Comics super-hero as well as Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in attendance at the wedding of Sue and Reed.

(click for a closer look)

The cheesy, sleazy album by The Capes & Masks is a blatant attempt to cash in on the super-hero craze. Not wanting to get permission to use actual comic book characters (and pay those licensing fees!), Mr. Capes and Mr. Masks crafted an entire album of generic comic book music. The cover is a pastiche of comic book clichés. Lots of men in tights and POW sound effects. And the songs sort of sound like comic book songs, but without mentioning any real characters. Plus they throw in some lame Jewish humor just to let us know they’re only kidding!

Their approach to the super-hero wedding is to throw in explosions every few seconds. I guarantee you won’t enjoy listening to this, but once you’ve heard it your life will be complete. Just click on the bar below…

(if no bar appears please click here to listen)

Next Tuesday is April Fool’s Day, no foolin’! Tune in for a super-song by a surprise singer.

Monkey See, Monkey Do!

The Purple Ape on this May 1951 comic book jumped the sales so much that all the DC Comics editors wanted to ape it by putting purple apes on their covers. The publisher was forced to leash the editors in with a monthly purple ape limit!

Is That a Carrot in Your Pocket…?

Does Roger Rabbit find Jessica exciting? “Are you kidding?’ says Charles Fleischer, Roger’s voice. “Why do you think he wears pants?! Bugs Bunny doesn’t wear pants!”
