Happy National Gorillia Suit Day! Today’s the holiday people of all faiths are celebrating inspired by Mad magazine’s Don Martin. For my part I’m running the following Bettie Page photo spread from the latest Arf book, Arf Museum (there’s a whole chapter on the subject of GIrls and Gorillas therein BTW). What could be cooler than a guy in a gorilla suit and Miss Bettie Page to honor this high holiday. My pal Mark Evanier promises a extensive wrap-up on today’s festivities on his wonderful blog News From ME.

What keeps men coming back to the single bar scene? The hope of meeting a Wacky Wonder Woman, of course. And if she has a friend that can join in the fun-all the better. And these two look like tons of fun!

Mort Walker, of Beetle Bailey fame, just sent me this photo of a YOUNG Pop Artist Roy Lichtenstein when he spoke at the National Cartoonist’s Society. Mort brilliantly did the strip below about the historic event for the latest Arf book, Arf Museum. See a preview of the book by clicking on the cover to the left and order your copy here.

While researching cartoons for my upcoming book Clean Cartoonsts’ Dirty Drawings I found this bit of hilarity. Trouble is I don’t know who the artist is. I strongly suspect it’s the brilliantly funny cartoonist you don’t hear enough about, Dick Guindon. Can anybody confirm this?

My good friend and Arf publicist/proofreader/etc. Susan Lane has a friend who for a hobby takes photos of celeb gravestones. Susan’s friend kindly sent us these of Winsor McCay in 6-foot Under Slumberland…

I’ve noticed lots of blogs have interactive features where readers vote on important things like “which girl has the cutest thong?” It seems like a perfect vehicle for Wacky Wonder Woman Wednesday so I’ll give it a shot this week. So e-mail me ( yoecomix (at) hotmail (dot) com ) and let me know which Wonder Woman below you think is the hottest. It’s gona be close, I’m sure but I’ll let you know the exciting results of the voting tomorrow! (Thanks to David B. for his continued help in finding WWWW pics)

Every arist in the world now has a blog since David Cowles finally came on board. http://cowlesworld.blogspot. David is the amazing caricaturist that you see in Entertainment Weekly and in many other publications—including Arf! David did the much commented on caricature of Jack Kirby for the first Arf volume, Modern Arf and R. F. Outcault for the second Arf volume, Arf Museum. And wait till you see who he did for Arf III, Arf Forum! You’ll never guess! On the first day of blogging David posted this caricature he did of the Office cast. Did you know that Jenna Fischer that plays Pam Beesley, according to the wonderful Mike Lynch on HIS blog, is rumored to be a "closet cartoonist"?

The third Arf book Arf Forum finally goes out to Fantagraphics today so now I’m gearing up today to work on my next book Clean Cartoonists’ Dirty Drawings. I’m putting the below dirty drawing by clean cartoonist Raeburn Van Buren in the book. Burn drew the beautiful Abbie and Slats newspaper strip written by Al Capp. I’m struck how similar Van Buren’s 1931 cartoon is to John Newton Hewitt’s 1911 cartoon. Do you think Van Buren swiped it? BTW “strabismus” is an eye disorder where you can’t focus or where you squint. You know, like Mr. Magoo.

“Isn’t that the girl we met at George’s tea?”

I just sold on ebay this Prince Valiant “Syroco” statue from 1944. Hm?

YOE! Studio sculpted the above Prince Valiant as part of the syroco-style statues for our friends at Dark Horse Comics, Mike Richardson and Dave Scroggy. Sword play anyone?
