I Yoe Pogo
Fantagraphics will be publishing the complete Pogo comic strip by the genius Walt Kelly and is looking for original art to reproduce from when available. Below is their cover mock-up for the book. And you’ll see the art I”m lending for the cause-it’s the original art from my collection of the very first Pogo strip! We’re scanning it today and then it goes back in the bank vault! But, I thought you might want to see it before this profound possum is locked up again! (Thanx RM!)

Yo, Craig!
I sc-ARF-fed my copy of Arf Forum a few days ago. Fuckin’ fantastic!!! Outstanding (as always).
I remain in awe,
Michael Dooley, editor of The Education of a Comic Artist
P.S. Congrats on the interview with Steven Heller about the Big Boy comics you do.
Thanks, man, coming from a creative type of your great caliber thats a real honor!

i’ll never tell!
Wait. You OWN the first ever Pogo strip? Rowrbazzle!!
it’s funny, i don’t think of “owning” this or any art. i feel i’m a “caretaker” till he next lucky schmuck comes along.
You seem to have a museum-class collection. Since I’ve been looking in here, I’ve seen this (Rowrbazzle, indeed), a Krazy Kat, and a Thomas Nast.
If you opened a museum, I do believe there would be folks in line to visit it.
Maybe I could be that lucky schmuck.
I could trade you some old Henry comics…

[...] In preparation for the publication of the upcoming Complete Pogo collections from Fantagraphics, Craig Yoe has graciously posted a high-res scan of the original artwork for the very first Pogo strip. It’s a real treat to see those gorgeous inks up close, along with the yellowing paper and the cut-out lettering. I’m also incredibly jealous that Craig has such a gem in his collection. What do I have to do to be written into your will, Yoe? [...]
[...] The complete collection of Pogo Strips? Yes please. Many people don’t know Pogo, but I most certainly do. My interest in comics spans to strips that died years before I was even born. Beautiful artwork and an all around funny strip (even though it’s very old). What’s even better is that the original artwork for the first strip was uploaded for all the world to see. It’s a high resolution image so you can really see all the details of the inks. [...]
Whoa, Yoe! Oh, to get just a single, up-close glimpse of your mighty collection!
