July 4th
Somehow, we keep ending up back at July 4th every year, so here we are, yet again! Must be a conspiracy by fireworks manufacturers!
New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg must be a reader of SuperITCH (and I apologize for that), as every July 4th, cartoons of a century ago would fill with the joy of fireworks — and their consequences.
Above and below, from 1906, we have a couple of July 4th postcards, by artist Gene Carr.
Click on the above & below pictures, to view the cartoons in detail, and read the text.
Above, from 1925, Fourth of July Vets, by artist Clare Briggs.
Beneath, from the August 1913 issue of Cartoons Magazine, a couple pages about fireworks safety (or lack of), with cartoons by William Kemp Starrett, John DeMar, and Doc Hirer Finch.
And to end, a couple more postcards by Gene Carr.
