D. J. David B. Spins Comics-Tunes: El Sorprendente Hombre Araña
Everybody’s talking about El Sorprendente Hombre Araña. If you don’t speak Spanish, you might know him better as The Amazing Spider-Man.
Of course there’s a new Spider-Man movie out, with a new Peter Parker and a new Aunt May & Uncle Ben.

But rather than talk about the new Spider-Man movie, let’s talk about the original! Let your mind drift back. Way back. If you’re old enough to remember that far back! Yes, we’re talking all the way back into the distant past… the year 2002. That’s when your father’s (or grandfather’s!) Spider-Man was released. Still the original, after all these years. Naturally, special effects were still primitive back then, nothing like the wizardry today’s Hollywood geniuses can perform. But that original film, albeit crude, had a quaint homemade charm. If you can suspend your disbelieve for a few moments, you could travel into a world where shy, nerdy Peter Parker gains super powers after being bitten by a radioactive spider. The rest, as they say, is ancient history.
So let’s go back – way back – and relive those thrilling days of yesteryear. And who better to take us down memory lane but the great Weird Al? Here’s his vintage recording, made long before today’s sophisticated iPods, when people listened to music on small shiny discs called CDs (I don’t have time to explain them, ask your parents). Take it away, Al!
