Makin’ Links # 50

WOMEN IN REFRIGERATORS is a site set up some time ago by comics writer Gail Simone (THE SIMPSONS, BIRDS OF PREY) which puts the fate of women in comics into a historical perspective. Apparently being a female super-heroine or a female friend of a male super hero is NOT a position you want to be in! Thanks to the ever-vigilant Ms. Lisa for pointing me toward this one.

Speaking of women, one of the most searched keyword terms on my own blog is WICKED WANDA. Today, HAIRY GREEN EYEBALL II re-presents the latest in a growing line of posts on the NSFW satirical OH, WICKED WANDA! strips drawn by the great British comic artist Ron Embleton from a late 1970′s issue of PENTHOUSE.

An informed appreciation of the masterful brushwork of ON STAGE artist Leonard Starr can be found at ILLUSTRATION ART. Starr’s long-running soap/adventure strip is currently being reprinted. He would go on to change his style completely in the revived ANNIE strip.

Finally, on a zoological note, here’s a piece that reflects on the evolutionary implications and various appearances of the rare Kryptonian Thought-Beast in DC’s Superman family titles of the 1960′s.
