D. J. David B. Spins Comics-Tunes: Snoopy vs. The Red Baron

It’s a brand new year and Christmas 2011 is a memory. But if you’re one of those people who leaves the Christmas tree up until you have a carpet of needles under it, the holidays are still in the air! Air makes me think of airplanes and that makes me think of World War I flying aces and that brings us to this week’s tune. Based on the novel by the same name it’s “Snoopy and the Red Baron.”

What would the holidays be without this song of dogfights (literally!) and an exchange of Christmas cheer between mortal enemies?

The original hit record by the Royal Guardsmen was the second LP I ever bought, if memory serves. But this wouldn’t be Comics Tune Tuesday if I presented a song everyone has heard before. So here’s a version by the Baltimore and Ohio Marching Band (B.O.M.B.) that you’ve probably never heard and probably will never want to hear again.

Click the link below and listen.

Hey guys, the “Ol’ Captain” here, fan club president for the band, “The Royal Guardsmen”. We very much appreciate you showing them a little love, since they’re actively playing and recording again, and we’re trying to get the fan base kick started.
Obviously, they’re known for the big 3 hits they had, (Snoopy vs.Red Baron, Return of the Red Baron, and Snoopys Christmas) but they’re also good musicians and really nice guys, too. Like most bands, their best stuff isn’t whats played on the radio.
If it’s cool with you, we’d love anyone interested to come on over to facebook and “like” The Royal Guardsmen, and from there you can stay current regarding news, tour dates and we even have semi monthly giveaways, one should be coming up soon.
I think I speak for the group when I say a great big thanks for this, have a great day, guys!
Here’s the link, http://www.facebook.com/theroyalguardsmen , hope to see you there!

Well! After that invitation, I guess I’ll have to spotlight the original version of “Snoopy vs The Red Baron” here sometime soon.

As I mentioned, it was the second album I ever bought and I played it so much you can hear side 2 backwards when you’re playing side 1.

I’ll put the Royal Guardsmen on my list and give them their just due on a future Tuesday.
