Little “Androgynous” Annie!

This toon was conceived by Harold Gray (1864 - 1968) to be a young boy named Otto. Captain Joseph Patterson, publisher of the New York Daily News, proclaimed, “The kid looks like a pansy. Just put a skirt on him and we’ll call him Little Orphan Annie!”
