D. J. David B. Spins Comics-Tunes: Never Enough Google!
If you thought four versions of the Barney Google song in a row was all anyone would dare, you’ve got another think coming. Today, four more versions!
That’s right. In an unprecedented move, I (D.J. David B.) have opted to present four songs on one Tuesday. Why? I simply have too many other comics-related songs and comics-oriented books to talk about (such as Dick Briefer’s Frankenstein) that I have to move on.
Just to recap, Barney Google was an exceedingly funny and influential comic strip back in its day. So popular, that a big hit song was written about it. A big hit. There were loads of recordings by different artists, not to mention countless versions played on pianos in parlors across America, thanks to sales of sheet music. (How quaint!)
Today’s selection of four (count ‘em) versions of “Barney Google” isn’t just a random sampling. There’s a theme to it. Can you guess? All are instrumental versions played on different “instruments” (if you can call a calliope an instrument). I figure you’ve all heard the song enough by now to know the words.
Sing along!
