The incredible upside-downs, created in 1903, are first read right-side up, then finished by reading upside down! Gustave Verbeek accomplished this for 65 installments! Weird but topsy-turvy!

Popeye! One of the greatest stars of Thimble Theater. And big star in actual theaters, as well, thanks to the Fleisher/Paramount cartoon series. Plus, he has one of the catchiest theme songs of any cartoon character with the unforgettable “I’m Popeye The Sailor Man.”

Not content to rest on his laurels, Popeye released a follow-up song in the disco/rap vein: A danceable hip-hoppy record called “Popeye The Ladies Man.” You’ll recognize “The Sailor’s Hornpipe” within its grooves, as well as the gravelly voice of ol’ Popeye himself. Arf!
