D. J. David B. Spins Comics-Tunes: God Bless America (and Captain America!)

Yesterday was Memorial Day, a time of remembrance. Fortunately, one of the things I remembered was to write my blog for Tuesday morning. But I also remembered the heroes, real and fictional, who made this country of ours great. And you can’t think of America without thinking of Captain America, perhaps the most patriotic of all superheroes. Even his wardrobe is patriotic: red, white and blue and star-spangled as it is.

Cap was there in our national time of need, ready to sock Hitler in the jaw in the name of freedom. And he’s been there ever since, fighting for American values – such as this cover on which he’s apparently punching out the CEO of Toyota for poorly engineered braking systems. Or a very unflattering illustration of a Japanese commander. (Hey, we were at war. Things were different then.)

Speaking of outdated references, you may enjoy today’s song which comes to us straight from Margaritaville. Yes, that’s Jimmy Buffet singing about Captain America while name-dropping Spiro Agnew (who?), the Lone Ranger and the Okie from Muskogee. Listen!
