makin’ LINKS! # 197

We start this work week with a happy 85th birthday greeting to Carmine Infantino, the storied, controversial and legendary old-school artist and later National/DC executive probably best remembered for his “new look” Batman in Detective Comics, his Silver Age Flash and his amazing sci-fi collaborations with Gardner Fox on Adam Strange in Mystery in Space, both from the early 1960′s.

Once Upon a Time in the West in Comics is a brand spanking new (and long overdue) blog all about the once enormously popular Western genre in comic books-starting with one of the best, Doug Wildey’s Rio from Eclipse Monthly in the 1980′s.

The first of three posts sharing the now horribly incorrect (but nonetheless hilarious) Kosher Comics one-shot from 1966 is up at the Magic Whistle, spotlighting Little Golden Book artist Mel Crawford’s Jewish-oriented parody of the Lone Ranger! Still to come -Superman, Tarzan and Dick Tracy.

Finally today, we learn of the recent passing of cartoonist and animator Howie Post, long a favorite for his National Comics humor work of the 1940′s through his classic Harvey Comics era and his memorable sixties series, Anthro! Here’s an interview from eleven years back. R.I.P.
