Maggie and Jiggs…
…that’s not just a euphemism for 8-pager Tijuana Bibles. It was one of the grand comic strips of comic strip’s Golden Age. Here’s some little original character sketches by their artist George McManus. That’s Jiggs, Maggie and their daughter Rosie. I don’t know how those two ugly pugs spawned that beautiful offspring but I’d like to be Rosie’s beau!

Love this postcard I found last year. Now that’s some bathroom humor!

Here’s a piece of original art I just sold last week on ebay for a friend. You missed out! I did, too. I would have liked to have bought it myself as it’s a very early and typically funny example. I didn’t have the dough, though

I’m selling the Maggie below this week, again for my friend. Click here if you want to bid: http://tinyurl.com/p99cw and see other stuff I’ve got up this week, too. It’s a large size “knock-off” piece of merchandise made for carnivals. Step right up and win a prize and bid on it if you’d like. It’s another piece I’d like to get for my collection but I’m really trying to stay on the wagon and not buy anything lately.
The Jiggs below, also for sale, was official merchandise. It’s small, about 5 inches high, and was one of the original “Syroco” cereal premiums that Dark Horse’s Mike Richardson and Dave Scroggy had us model the statues we sculpt for them after. In the nearly 70 Classic Comic Strip statues we’ve done we didn’t do our version of Jiggs and Maggie. Man, I’d like to. And Rosie!

I’m trying to find out who the character was in Bringing Up Father who was an older woman with dark hair in a severe haircut, glasses and a pointy crooked nose. Was she a schoolteacher? Was she a secretary? Did she have a name? Does anyone know?
Do you know if the character sketches you have here [http://superitch.com/?p=72] of Jiggs, Maggie, and Rosie exist as prints?
