This Day in Arf History: F. O. Alexander’s Birthday

F. O. Alexander was born on this day in 1897. Contrary to popular belief the “F. O.” does not stand for “Fuck Off”, but for Franklin Osborne. In the early thirties, after the passing of C. W. Kahles, F. O. Alexander assumed the cartooning chores for Hairbreadth Harry. He did two strips of his own, Finney of the Force and The Featherheads. He also drew editorial cartoons for the United Feature Syndicate, before he became the staff political cartoonist of the Philadelphia Bulletin in 1941. F. O. Alexander retired in 1967. Cartooning promotes longevity. The cartoonist died at the ripe old age of 97 in 1993.
