What a Party!

Went to the Fantagraphics party at the Society of Illustrators last night. Cool packed party with, of course LOTS of great art (though no, Feiffer, Roth, Yoe originals, even though these three Fantagraphics , ahem, Greats were in attendance). Got a few photos though, dammit, my snaps of a few people like esteemed Terrence Brown, Director of the Society, and one of my fave cartoonists, Mark Newgarden, didn’t come out for some furshlinger reason.

Jules Feiffer hits on Mrs. Arnold Roth. I caught this photo just before she threw her drink in his face.

Jenny Gonzalez, Heidi MacDonald and Anne Bernstein

Sandy Schecter, curator of the terrific recent Art Against the Axis exhibit stands in front of the original art to 30th Anniversary Comics Journal cover.

Pathetically, Bill Alger was begging for handouts to support his Dennis the Menace comic book habit. Get a life, Bill!

Most excellent illustrator Steven Guarnaccia’s wife was pissed at him for trying to hit on Mrs. Arnold Roth.

Michael Kupperman, tired from finishing his new comic late the night before , puts his head on Glenn Head editor of Hotwire. Glenn also had the best piece of art in the show in my opinion (and probably the opinion of whoever hung the show who put it right up front as you entered the show).

Jay Kennedy and Brendan Burford of King Features hit on Mrs. Arnold Roth after she rejects Jules Feiffer’s and Steven Guarnaccia’s advances.

The big news story of the evening was Ken Wong, director of the MoCCA Museum and his associate Bob Postal amazingly caught here by my camera trying to steal this art for their next show. I have turned in this evidence to the New York Police Department of Investigation.

Arnold Roth trying to complain about everyone hitting on his wife to anybody that would listen, even hippies.

Matt Murray, also of MoCCA, in a happy mood before finding out and being embarrassed by Wong and Postal’s attempted heist and before being rejected by Mrs. Arnold Roth. I discussed all this, BTW, with Mrs. Roth over breakfast this morning.
