Makin’ Links # 171-DeCarlo Day

In celebration of this weekend’s debut of Craig’s newest book, a collection of Archie artist Dan DeCarlo’s rare Jetta comic book series featuring a futuristic, Jetsons-like (years before the Jetsons!) female version of the redheaded eternal teenager, here are some delightful DeCarlo links!
Let’s start today over at The Big Blog of Kids’ Comics where we find Dan DeCarlo in 1955 drawing a fun little tale or two featuring Stan Lee’s Atlas version of Casper the Friendly Ghost-Homer the Happy Ghost.

Here’s a great-if not particularly active-board topic at The Collectors Society called the Dan DeCarlo Apprecaition Thread. It may only have 5 pages of posts over the past three years but in those five pages you’ll find dozens of large, lovely scans of Dan DeCarlo’s 1950′s comic book covers and even a couple of stories!

Back to the early 1950′s, we find at Cartoon Snap a prime example of DeCarlo’s military humor strip, The Yardbirds, that ran in issues of G I Joe. With his own military background and his tendency never to waste the opportunity a throw in a pretty girl, this one is also a lot of fun!

Our old friend Pappy has revisited Dan DeCarlo’s work a number of times over the years and here are three stories he’s posted-Two with Stan Lee from the radio-inspired series, My Friend Irma and also one of DeCarlo’s character, the Brain!

Watch I.T.C.H. all day for more Dan DeCarlo posts and be sure to order your copy of Jetta elsewhere on this page for even more fun!
