D. J. David B. Spins Comics-Tunes: Avengers Again!

You didn’t think we’d devote just one Tuesday to The Avengers, did you? We had a whole month of Ghost Rider, and that film was panned by critics, and audiences stayed away in droves!

In case you haven’t heard, the Avengers movie broke records for the biggest weekend box office grosses. Is it because it’s a highly anticipated film by a talented director with an equally gifted cast? Is it because it features an all-star line-up of popular movie and comic book heroes like Iron Man, Captain America and Thor? Personally, I think it’s because of the music! (I wouldn’t be D.J. David B. if I didn’t.)

I haven’t seen it yet (it’s been busy here at Comics Tunes HQ) but from what I understand it involves a battle with Loki, which occurred in Avengers #1. However, the film features Captain America who didn’t join the Avengers until issue #4. But by then, the Hulk had already quit. The Avengers film line-up also includes Hawkeye who didn’t join the team until the 16th ish. Of course, Iron Man and Thor had left by that point, and Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch came on board. The way I figure it, the film covers the events from Avengers #1 up to the sixth page of Avengers #16, just before the Yubiwaza ad.

Would you believe I have a record that ties in with this? No, not Yubiwaza. It’s all about how Captain America joined The Avengers. Hard to believe, isn’t it? Actually, it’s not a song, but an actual recording of the actual comic book being read by an actual person! It runs 38 minutes, so sit back, relax, and read a good book while it plays. If you have a copy of Avengers #4 (currently listed on eBay for $24,999 in nice condition) you can read along.

That’s an amazing cel painting re-creation of the cover above.
