Buster Gets Up to See the Sunrise
I’d initially planned to run one of Buster Brown‘s typically nasty pranks for Mother’s Day, as I’ve done the past two years. But while searching, I came across this even more appropriate story, instead. So, extracted from the 1910 to 1911 collection, Buster Brown’s Fun and Nonsense, is Buster Gets Up to See the Sunrise by Richard Felton Outcault. Enjoy!

D’awwww. Also: the sheer insanity of Tige not only talking, but dressed and carried as though he were Buster’s brother.
(Tige was like Garfield in those days; he spoke to the audience, but it was rarely indicated that anyone but the reader could “hear” him.)
I also adore those huge essays Buster slaps up on his wall (although normally after he’s had his ass beat red following some insane destructive shenanigan). Barnacle Press has a nice online assortment of Buster’s strips from that era but I would KILL for a freshly-published collection similar to what you’ve shown here…
Thank you!
…and of course were I not such an idjit, I’d have looked at Amazon for exactly such a thing! Ooooh, they’s nice!
