D. J. David B. Spins Comics-Tunes: 3 Ghost Riders In The Sky

It’s official! I have officially decided to declare February Ghost Rider Month here on the I.T.C.H. blog. You’re welcome.

In just ten short days we’ll see the premiere of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, the film I know you’ve all been waiting for. And what better way to celebrate this special month than by presenting the song on which the comic book character was based, which in turn formed the basis for the other comic book character who rides a motorcycle, upon which the film itself was then based? Basically, it’s all about Ghost Riders In The Sky!

As I discussed last Tuesday, this was a huge hit and was recorded by umpteen different singers, bands and comedians. We don’t have time for all umpteen of them, but here’s three.

Today we’ll hear very different versions by some disparate recording artists. A band called Riders In The Sky went the traditional route. Since the band was named after the song, that makes perfect sense. Scatman Crothers gives us a bluesy version that really swings! And a band called Me First and the Gimme Gimme’s delivers a revved-up, punk rock rendition. All great records and all of them about Ghost Riders. What more could you ask for?

Click the links below to hear three versions of Ghost Riders In The Sky.
