D. J. David B. Spins Comics-Tunes: Music To Read Krazy Kat By
If you’re a regular habitué of comics shops you probably pick up Previews, the catalog from Diamond Distributors that allows you to pre-order books and comics months in advance. And if you’re like me, it takes you longer to read through that 400-page tome than it does to read any of the books and comics you order from it!
I mention this only because the current issue of Previews offers Krazy & Ignatz in Tiger Tea, a new book that PURELY BY COINCIDENCE happens to be from Yoe Books, the new IDW imprint from our very own Yoe Studios – sponsors of this very blog! To commemorate this occasion, I just happen to have a song called “Krazy Kat” by that crazy cat Bix Beiderbecke. (Certainly one of the coolest names in jazz. If I ever have a son, I’ll name him Bix.)
The famous Tiger Tea sequence from George Herriman’s Krazy Kat comic strip involves the psychedelic properties of a bizarre brewed beverage. Far be it from me to suggest that you imbibe a psychedelic substance as you listen to this vintage recording, or to imply that Bix was in any way under the influence when he made this record. But you have to admit, it is a bit wiggy.
Enjoy!
