D. J. David B. Spins Comics-Tunes: It’s A Madhouse!
First things first. Last Tuesday, as loyal I.T.C.H. readers will recall, we had a contest to see who could name that tune. I presented an instrumental cartoon-related tune and I asked the readers to identify it and win a handsome prize. (Nothing, but nicely gift wrapped.) No sooner did I post the question than – bingo! – I had an answer. It was mrgoberg who correctly answered that it was the Jonny Quest theme. Either the question was too easy or our readers are too smart. (Ironically, it was mislabeled as the theme from Peter Potamus in my files so I can’t claim to be too smart myself!)
That’s it for old business. On to new business!
This Tuesday it’s my privilege to present a song in celebration of the recent release of Archie’s Mad House from Yoe Books, our gracious hosts here at I.T.C.H. (available on Amazon for a paltry $19.01 – a steal at twice the price). If you’ve been following along at home you know that Yoe Books releases a new deluxe collection of classic comics about once every fifteen minutes. They write ‘em faster than I can read ‘em!
This book has all the Yoe trademarks: custom endpapers, informative “front material,” and gorgeous reproduction of comics I can’t afford to buy, in a deluxe hardcover binding with foil stamping and spot varnish, all designed to make book-lovers drool. (They say if you drool on a Kindle you can short it out, but I don’t have any personal experience.)
To commemorate this latest in a long line of publishing achievements, I, D. J. David B., am sharing with you a song called – what else? – “Madhouse” by none other than the King of Swing himself, Benny Goodman.
