Popeye the Statue Man!

Crystal City, Texas, the spinach capitol of the world, erected a statue in 1937 to honor Popeye and his creator, E.C. Segar, for their influence on America’s eating habits!

In southern Illinois, I honestly forget where (I stopped there while on a trip to Kentucky) is the home of E.C. Segar, they have a small museum dedicated to Popeye as well as a bronze statue of Him in a local park… however oddly enough they also have a far more elaborate granite statue of Popeye’s pal Whimpee in the town square
