D. J. David B. Spins Comics-Tunes: Flashback To Flash Gordon
It was only in our second Tuesday blog entry (way back on August 21, 2025 to be exact) that we last looked at Flash Gordon, and heard him sung about in song. (Turns out, that was Leon Russell. My bad.)
Now, with the recent passing of Al Williamson, it’s time to take another look at Flash, this time accompanied by the late Mr. Williamson’s art.
Whether he was working alone, or in collaboration, such as this piece with help from Gray Morrow, Al brought Flash Gordon to life with beauty and elegance.
Williamson’s illustrations graced comic book covers as well as the Sunday pages.
Of course our primary concern on Tuesdays is records, and Williamson did a great job on this album cover.
Rather than present one of these half-hour radio dramas, I thought it best to give you something short and sweet. Our selection today comes from the soundtrack of the film Flash Gordon, with music by Queen.
Special bonus! If your name happens to be Gary, here’s an autographed rarity, especially for you!

Oh wow, I used to love this song! One of my earliest memories of enjoying stereo sound. I’d lie on the floor between the two speakers on opposite sides of the room, and listen to the missiles going from one speaker to the other. Magical stuff, cheers
very nice tribute d.j. david b.-you’re a class act!
