Jeffrey Catherine Jones died today. Often thought of as a comic book artist, in reality it wasn’t very long before he transcended comics to become a brilliant illustrator and painter. Seen here are most (not all) of the comics covers Jones did, most from the early 1970′s.

After Frazetta, Jones was my absolute favorite fantasy artist! Well, okay Corben was up there, too. Where Frazetta and Corben exuded all things masculine, Jones exuded the romantic side of the fantasy genre. A great big Jones tome desperately needs to be published.
