D. J. David B. Spins Comics-Tunes: Aquaman

What could be better to brighten up your Tuesday than The Official Adventures of Aquaman?

(click for a closer look)

The secret origin of how Aquaman got his powers is narrated by none other than legendary announcer Jackson Beck. Who, in an amazing comics coincidence, was also the voice of Bluto in the Popeye cartoons. How’s that for a cartoon pedigree?

(click for a closer look)

What’s interesting about this Aquaman record is not so much the secret origin of His Maritime Majesty (I had just assumed his mother married a fish) but the cool theme song that goes with it. Who knew Aquaman even had a theme song? Well I’ll be hornswoggled!

(click for a closer look)

Yours truly, DJ David B, cleverly edited together the intro and outro from the record so you don’t have to sit through the actual story. After all, this is about comics TUNES not great narration.

  1. Michael Burton Says:

I expected to hear, “I wanna marry a lighthouse keeper and give birth for DC.”

Purple’s a big color for DC covers, isn’t it?

Jackson Beck also was the narrator of Woody Allen’s Take the Money and Run, which doesn’t have anything to do with comics, but I wanted to show that I know trivia. Checking his imdb.com page, I see that he’s up to his ears in comic-y voice stuff, including a number of voices on the Fleischer Studios Superman cartoons.

  2. DJ David B. Says:

Well I’ll be hornswoggled, you DO know some trivia! It’s nice to know you’re more than just another pretty face.

  3. Michael Burton Says:

I’m, like, deep and stuff. My pretty face deceives many.

  4. DJ David B. Says:

Is it just me, or are other Arf-lovers having trouble getting this song to play?

  5. Ryan Says:

Hi Mr. B, I have a request for you. Would you be able to post the whole thing of that You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown thingy? I’ve loved the ones you posted already, so I ordered the CD, but it’s an AWFUL 1999 re-recording, and it just sounds cheesy. So would you be able to do that, possibly? Perhaps you have a website I’m unaware of where you already have done this? Just a thought.

  6. DJ David B. Says:

Ryan: Yes, but wouldn’t that be like stealing?

I try to limit these posts to just one or two tracks from each LP. That was there’s an incentive to buy the whole album.

I’m sure this one will turn up on eBay. This one is on eBay now, but it’s not the same cast as my LP from childhood:

  7. Ryan Says:

Yeah, fair point, guessing it would be stealing. Appreciate the effort with the eBay, I’ll keep a look out.

I.T.C.H is looking forward to your thoughts. Please, no flame. Thanks!
