Last Tuesday was the debut of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC television. We liked it! Fans have said there were too many in-jokes about Marvel Comics. Either I didn’t get them or I just like in-jokes, but I thought it was just the right amount of humor among the action. I’m looking forward to tonight’s episode.
Conspicuously absent, of course, was the man for whom S.H.I.E.L.D. existed in the first place. Nick Fury, formerly of the Howling Commandos, was the original agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. — yet he’s not part of the TV series. (Presumably because Samuel L. Jackson was too expensive.) I like Agent Coulson a lot, but I miss good ol’ Colonel Fury.
To correct this grave omission we present this Tuesday some classic Nick Fury cover art by Jim Steranko, along with the Nick Fury theme music from Iron Man 2 (a movie with a budget big enough to afford Samuel L. Jackson). You’re welcome.
