D. J. David B. Spins Comics-Tunes: The Return of Gorgo
Finally! After decades in seclusion (presumably at the bottom of the ocean) Gorgo returns! This time it’s as a beautiful hardcover book not as a radioactive sea monster. And it’s drawn by Steve Ditko!
Yoe Books (our gracious hosts here on the ITCH blog) is reprinting all of Ditko’s Gorgo stories from way back when. And unlike the original printings in Charlton comics they are in glorious full-color on high-quality paper with a sturdy binding (as opposed to the cheapest newsprint with blurry ink and rusty staples). It’s an improvement that’s long overdue.
Here’s the cover of the upcoming book which you can order NOW through your local comics dealer by way of Diamond’s Previews catalog.
As if that’s not enough, I scanned some original, raggedy old Gorgo comics from my collection. Just imagine how nice this art will be when it’s not on Charlton paper.
Stay tuned! There’s a Konga volume coming soon.
Of course, this wouldn’t be Comics Tunes Tuesday without a song. It’s called Gorgo Boogie and you can thank Canned Heat for having the foresight to record this tune decades ago to tie in with the release of the new book.
