D. J. David B. Spins Comics-Tunes: A Creature From Some Lagoon

It’s Election Day in America but since there are no comics-oriented songs about elections that I can think of, I’m ignoring it. (But please do get out and VOTE!) Instead I’m focusing on Halloween which is just a few days away here in the northeast, thanks to Hurricane Sandy. We may have lost some creature comforts but we still are comforted by a creature.

So, in keeping with the Halloween spirit I want to feature one of my favorite classic monsters. Looks like a fish, walks like a man. You know him, you love him, you can’t live without him. Ladies and gentlemen, let’s have a big round of applause for The Creature From The Black Lagoon!

“But, wait,” you say. “That’s not a comic book character, that’s a monster movie character!” Aha! That’s where you’re wrong. (How dare you question my expertise?)

The Creature, or “Creech” as we call him around here, has been featured in comics many times. Or at least his cousins have. Whether the lagoon is black, green or simply lost, there’s no mistaking good ol’ Gill Man and his doppelgangers. Enjoy this gallery of lake/lagoon based comic creatures, and the Creature’s excellent theme song by Mr. Dave Edmunds.
