H.T. Webster’s Mutts

Shhhh! I’m leaving for New Jersey right after posting this to work on more Mutts statues with Patrick McDonnell. The secret part is I’m gonna give him this book as a thank you for letting me use his art in Modern Arf and the soon to be released Arf Museum. I’ll share a few interior cartoons from this rare book with Arf Lovers, too. Click on the book cover for a slideshow of these cartoons.

It’s amazing (and a little sad) that a great cartoonist like Webster is virtually forgotten today. Was he popular in his time? Well, speaking of time check out THIS cover.

How could a guy be on the cover of the number one news magazine in the world and nobody knows his name now? Tell me.

This is my Great Great Uncle Webby. Never to be forgotten. I have his old typewriter and books. His cartoons are framed on my wall. I wish more people knew of his creative genius. Thanks for sharing!
