The Honeymoon was Almost Over!

Asked if The Honeymooners influenced the creation of The Flintstones, Bill Hanna said, “Jackie Gleason was going to sue but was talked out of it by his lawyers!”

  1. Michael Burton Says:

Just think where television would be today without sitcoms about obnoxious fat guys and their neighbors.

    Good thing he didn’t sue.

  2. Alman Says:

    1. Laurel & Hardy made (their best) L&H-movies in the thirties.
    2. Jacky Gleason bought the old Laurel & Hardy scripts from their filmproducer Hall Roach. So you see same situations in the Honeymooners, like Ralph Kramden is a member of some sort of Raccoon society like in Laurel & Hardy were members of Sons of the Desert.
    3. So even if he wanted, Gleason couldn’t really sell his Honeymooners-scripts to Hanna-Barbera because they were adapted from L&H-scripts in the first place. Like the Laurel & Hardy movies and the Honeymooners, you understand why Fred and Barney are member of the Water Buffaloes Lodge.
