D. J. David B. Spins Comics-Tunes: Dennis the Menace

Dennis The Menace was a hit comic strip AND a hit on telebision.

Perhaps the most successful transition from the funny pages star to the small screen.

Harmless as a puppy and carefree as a guppy, Dennis never realized what a menace he was, especially to his friend and neighbor Mr. Wilson.
There are so many Dennis the Menace records, it’s hard to choose just one!

And be sure to check out the excellent series of books from Fantagraphics that reprints Hank Ketchum’s original gag panels in order, from the strip’s beginning.

Arflovers in the UK will be well aware that OUR Dennis the Meance first hit the streets on the very same day as the US Dennis. His anarchic nature kept him off our TVs until much much later though….

Yeah, what are the odds of there being TWO Dennises the Meanace? Although I guess it’s more likely than having two Barney Googles.
Just a heads-up for anyone interested in that Fantagraphics collection: I just picked mine up at Barnes & Noble at a close-out price of $6.98! (Good news for the procrastinating buyer, but I wonder if it bodes well for the continuation of the series.)
